all-level class descriptions

All Levels of Yoga for All Body Types

At Yoga Roots Renew we are committed to sharing the gift of yoga with anyone who is interested. Our instructors are highly trained in many types of yoga, and all have experience working with every level and body type. Below is a description of our class offerings. We believe in the transformative power of yoga and we are here to meet you where you are.

On our wall is this quote from Buddha:

"Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most."

The idea of each day being a fresh beginning resonates with yoga's emphasis on starting a new practice with a fresh perspective and intentions. It encourages letting go of what is not serving us and embracing the possibility of change and growth. We apply this to each time you are on your yoga mat...it is a new beginning...

NOTE FOR FIRST TIMERS

If you are brand new to yoga, please come a little early to let the instructor know it is your first yoga class. We are happy to show you around the studio. We have all the equipment you will need to get started. We also offer private yoga lessons for beginners. There is also a quarterly "Intro to Yoga" series on Friday nights that goes for 5 weeks. Check the schedule for the next Intro class if you are interested in learning basic yoga poses and techniques to get started on your transformative journey.

Yoga Basics

This is designed for the beginner or students who wish to revisit the basics and improve the fundamentals of their practice. This class introduces the history of yoga, fundamental principles of alignment, and breath work. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability within each pose. If you have never tried yoga this class is perfect for you and is designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga as well as those seeking continued understanding of basic yoga poses.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a gentle, accessible practice where yoga poses are performed while seated or using a chair for support, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It offers similar benefits to traditional yoga, including increased flexibility, strength, body awareness, and relaxation. This is a great class for people who may have mobility issues or people who are new to yoga. All levels welcome.

Power Yoga

Get ready to sweat, flow, and glow—this isn’t your average yoga class. This is Power Yoga: bold, fiery, and unapologetically strong. Whether you’re here to build heat, release stress, sculpt your body, or just vibe out to the beat of your breath, you’re in the right place. This class is all about embracing your power—mind, body, and spirit—while having a darn good time doing it.

We’ll move with intention, breathe with purpose, and challenge ourselves with dynamic sequences designed to energize and empower. Don’t worry if you wobble, sweat, or even curse a little (we’ve all been there). Just show up, be real, and let the mat be your playground.

Yoga Sculpt

Yoga sculpt combines the traditional flow of yoga with strength training and cardio, and we often use light weights to build muscle and improve endurance. This is a moderate to high-intensity workout that can help with weight loss, building strength, and improving overall fitness.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. Our Vinyasa Flow is a 75 minute class.

Core Yoga

This class is designed to strengthen and balance weak areas in the body through modified activation of smaller muscle groups while working to deepen active range of motion. This engaging 60-minute core activation class is a great way compliment to your lifestyle. While this class is more intense, it is appropriate for anyone who is interested in building strength in their core and having a challenging workout. Also, the music is great! All levels are welcome. It is helpful to know basic yoga poses for this course but not required.

Hatha Yoga & Warm Hatha Yoga

Hatha is a general category that includes most yoga styles. It is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing exercises) which bring peace to the mind and body.

In the "Warm Hatha "class, we will warm the room temperature and lead you through slow, gentle asanas and hold poses slightly longer while the muscles are warm. This class is great for beginners as well as intermediate students who prefer a more relaxed style.

Mat Pilates

Mat pilates involves performing pilates exercises on the floor using a pilates, or yoga mat. Exercises in mat pilates can also involve basic pilates equipment such as a pilates ring, resistance band, or weighted balls. Mat pilates exercises are performed in a slow, controlled, precise manner and require an intense concentration. These exercises help strengthen the body's core by developing pelvic and scapula stability, and abdominal control, using focused breathing patterns. The main fitness goals of a mat pilates program include improved flexibility, muscle tone, body balance, spinal support, low back health, sports performance, and body-mind awareness.

Thai Chi

Tai Chi is a non-competitive self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do Tai Chi, you perform a series of postures or movements in a slow graceful manner. Each posture flows in to the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.

Tai Chi sessions are open to all levels and taught by Keith who has over 30 years of experience of training in martial arts, starting his career at the age of eight. Keith has trained with some of the most well known Masters in the world traveling as far as Korea and Thailand to pursue his passion for teaching and training in Tai Chi, Meditation and Martial Arts.
